This is a very interesting bike ride admits natural landscapes, history, culture and local traditions. We recommend starting the tour from the square in front of the Marchesi del Cerreto Castle in Lesegno; you will then cycle towards Mongrosso, where you will find the well-signposted and beautifully kept “Bici e Boschi” (‘Bike and Woods’) itinerary. This is one of the reasons why you should go cycling in Mongia Valley!
Proceeding, you will reach the hamlet of Masentine (424 m above sea level), where you will be able to admire the natural bridge across the Mongia torrent, a classical phenomenon of erosion dating back a million years. Forest trails lead to San Paolo di San Michele (619m asl), the next location on a route which passes through a dense forest of chestnut groves to reach amazing landscapes such as the Ascheri (629 m asl) and the Alberghetti (679 m asl).
The route dips down to Mombasiglio (454m asl) before climbing once more to 533 m, atop the hill that hosts the historic village with its carefully renovated castle (the headquarters of the local action group “ Mongioie”) and the majestic 35 metre tall tower. It then continues over a very panoramic watershed among small chapels immersed in greenery before reaching The Chapel of St. John Bosco (543 m) then goes back down to Lesegno (422 m), via the small village of Tetti.
